Create Stunning Earth Day Sugar Cookies: A Delicious Celebration of Our Planet!

As Earth Day approaches, what better way to honor our planet than by indulging in some sweet treats? In this blog post, we’ll show you how to create adorable Earth Day sugar cookies that are as delicious as they are beautiful. The best part is that these couldn’t be easier to make! So, whether you’re baking for a party, classroom activity, or simply to enjoy with your family, these cookies are sure to be a hit. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get ready to bake!

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

To make Earth Day sugar cookies, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 2 packs of your favorite sugar cookie mix (or ingredients to make homemade sugar cookie dough)

  • butter

  • eggs

  • Blue food coloring

  • Green food coloring

Step 2: Prepare the Cookie Dough

If you’re using store-bought sugar cookie mix, follow the package instructions to prepare the dough. This usually entails adding melted butter and eggs to the mix. I like to use my mixer for this, it does a great job. If you prefer homemade dough, double the batch to ensure you have enough for both the blue and green cookies.

Once the dough is mixed, add a few drops of blue food coloring to one batch and green food coloring to the other. Mix the dough until the color is evenly distributed, adding more food coloring if needed to achieve your desired shade.

Step 3: Create Marbleized Dough

Take a tablespoon of green dough and a tablespoon of blue dough. Press the two colors together and gently roll them in the palm of your hands into balls until they form a marbled effect. The goal is to create swirls of blue and green throughout the dough, resembling the colors of the Earth.

Step 4: Baking The Cookies

Place the rounded ball of dough on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or tin foil. They will naturally flatten into a traditional cookies shape from the heat of the oven.

Bake the cookies according to the package instructions or until they are golden brown around the edges. Keep in mind that baking times may vary depending on your oven, the size of your cookies as well as your preferences. I prefer my cookies to be softer and chewier. What about you?

Step 5: Enjoy the Results

Once the cookies are baked and cooled, marvel at their beauty! The marbled blue and green dough creates a stunning effect that resembles the Earth’s oceans and landmasses. These cookies are not only delicious but also a visual delight. These are so fun to bake with kids, they will really enjoy squishing the blue and green dough together and rolling it into little “Earth balls”!

Making Earth Day sugar cookies is a fun and delicious way to celebrate our planet and raise awareness about environmental conservation. Whether you’re baking with kids, hosting a party, or simply enjoying some homemade treats, these cookies are sure to impress. So, gather your ingredients, roll up your sleeves, and let’s bake a batch of Earth-inspired sweetness!
